Armagh 10K - 2011 Race Report04-Apr-2011 The third annual RUN ARMAGH 10K road race event was held around the streets of Armagh on Sunday, 3rd April. Eamon White
scored a magnificent victory in a race that attracted almost 400 entrants. Conditions on the day were
glorious for both runners and spectators - sunny with broken clouds but
mild, offering clear views of the Armagh countryside as runners passed through the rural sections of the course.
Shea Roddy (Unattached) finished in 2nd place, with Colum Hughes &
Michael Walsh coming home in third and fourth positions. Jason Reid
completed top five in the mens race. Donna, who finished 3rd
in 2009 and 2nd in 2010 returned to Armagh to claim victory and finish
almost 2 minutes ahead of her nearest rival. She finished ahead of
Ruth Little with Catriona McCorkell (winner of this event in 2009 and
2010) finishing in 3rd. Linsey Kerr and Fiona Kearney made up the ladies top five. Ruth Little was first in the Female Open category, Fiona Kearney in the F35 category, Donna Evans in the F40 category, Teresa Fearon in the F45 category, Siobhan McCaffrey in the F50 category, Maureen Oliver in the F55 category, Barbara Hamilton in the F60 category, with Diane Toal taking the Women's Juniors title. This year saw the first RUN ARMAGH 5K FUN RUN & WALK, attracting over 60 entrants. The event was won by Gregory Thorton, with Laura Henderson finishing first female. The event organisors would like to thank all the supporters and volunteers from the local Armagh community for coming down to support the runners, joggers and walkers on the Mall East, and those who lined the course cheering, clapping and handing out wedges of orange! The event sponsors were instrumental in making the event a huge success - these include Emersons supermarket from Armagh and The Classic Mineral Water Company from Lurgan. The event has raised vital funds for the nominated charity, Cardiac Rick in the Young (C-R-Y) for their screening unit in University of Ulster at Jordanstown, which screens young athletes for heart defects - saving young lives! The official times are now
available via the Run Armagh website with full search functionality and category positions. A photo gallery provided by RHG Photogrpahy is also available via the Run Armagh website. |

charity
01-Jan-2011 Cardiac Risk in the Young [C-R-Y] has been chosen as the charity for the RUN ARMAGH 10K. CRY is a charity founded in May 1995 to raise awareness of Cardiac Risk in the Young - Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD), Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS, SADS), and more information is available via their website [www.c-r-y.org.uk].
